Last night ended up uneventfully, as I had hoped. It was pretty foggy trying to get into Camden Harbor, and the channel heading into the inner harbor isn’t exactly where it’s shown on my GPS (not a problem until I saw a big float (waiting to be installed somewhere) moored in the middle of the “GPS channel.” Thankfully, there was enough backlighting (and I was going slow enough (3 kts)) to see it in plenty of time to steer to port and look harder for the actual channel marker buoys.
Just as I was pulling into the harbor, Customs and Border Protection called me back and asked a few questions. Fortunately, it was only a few, because I was maneuvering in close quarters at the time! Anyway, after those few questions about me, the boat, and my reasons for the trip, I was cleared to enter “over the wire,” without the need to wait for a physical inspection. Whew!
While it was 7-9 kts of wind outside the harbor, inside, it was a mill pond. So no problem snuggling up to the Lyman-Morse dock, tidying up my lines and going to sleep around 4:30am.
Up again at 6:30, I showered, further cleaned up the lines, covered sails, etc. and got my soggy clothes (in fact, all washables) together to bring home today.
Just as I was finishing, Ruth arrived in Camden. We loaded up the car with stinky clothes, then headed off to Boynton & McKay for huevos rancheros. (Ruth said I should have posted a photo of breakfast but, by the time she’d mentioned it, there was only 1/3 left.)
And so we arrived, safe and sound. Resolute will spend a few weeks in Camden having some maintenance done (mostly a look at the bottom paint and a decision as to whether to touch up or do something more comprehensive).
Later today, I’ll try to post a few photos from the trip. But don’t get your hopes up…there’s not much and they’re not very interesting.
And I’ll read through your comments and try to reply as it makes sense.
See you soon!
As usual, good job Scott.
When Resolute is ready and should you need a crew for the return to Blue Hill, I am usually available.
Should be the first or second week in June. I’ll try to reach out when I have more specific timing in mind.
Well done, Scott, very well done – congratulations. I’m looking forward to the pics; it’s always interesting to get a peek into an adventure. “Hi!” to Ruth for us.
Welcome back!
As usual it was an adventure just reading about your adventure. Well done! If the time comes when Ruth tires of driving to Camden in the wee hours, give us a call. We would look forward to breakfast in Camden.
Scott, this was for me the first trip where I followed your blog. I really enjoyed it, and learned a lot about single-handing offshore. Thanks so much! And welcome back.
Glad you are home safe-enjoyed reading your post, very interesting for this land lubber. Look forward to seeing you and Ruth in August.
Well done.
Followed your trip—–Glad you are safe and sound! Jealous you can do that, I get sea sick reading your posts………… Love those Huevos Rancheros myself, second only to shrimp and grits down here in the VA hinterland.
See you at the reunion—now you can stay on land and practice your golf.
