So I sent in my entry form and something like nine other documents on Thursday evening. The Race Committee asked for lots of stuff (all pretty reasonable for a race of this sort).
But it wasn’t clear when it was all due (the Notice of Race said the info should “accompany the entry” or somesuch). So I sent it all:
- Entry form
- Digital photograph of the skipper (me)
- Digital photograph of Resolute under sail (I had to choose a relatively old one that looked most like Resolute today—since I’ve just plastered a big “7050” on each side of the hull to meet another race requirement).
- IRC Rating Certificate (used to establish handicaps amongst the range of boat designs)
- Evidence of Insurance
- Description of my “qualifying passage” (the RC requires at least 500 nm singlehanded on the same boat, similarly configured—I described my two previous transatlantic passages in 2015)
- Verbiage about the skipper (me) and the boat (Resolute) for website/PR purposes
- etc.
Having been a bit nervous that the email didn’t go through properly (some of these documents are quite large, and my first attempt to “send” was rejected by the RWYC email server as too large), I finally heard this morning that I’m now a “confirmed” entrant.
So that step’s behind me.
It’s snowing here in Maine and we’re forecast to get a bit more the middle of next week. That’s relevant because I only started sailing Resolute last Thursday (as soon as Lyman-Morse had her ready to go) and I have less than two weeks before I plan to leave Camden, Maine bound for Plymouth, England.
Lots to do between now and then!
